Giorgio Armani demonstrated a sensitivity to light and shade, applying delicate sunrise and midnight hues to produce a winning collection he opened his show with a fresh take on masculine style, pairing shirt like jackets in billowing organza with wide-legged velvet pants. Dressy pants proved to be Armani’s main fashion message, and they looked rich in double crepe wool and flowing black silk velvet. The latter proved a terrific foil for filmy organza cardigans fronted with silvery embroideries.

Paul Smith's "Very Optimistic" Spring 2013 Look
Paul Smith promised ahead of his spring show that the collection would be “very much about optimism,” and the designer’s crisp, skinny suits in upbeat color combos certainly fit that bill. Smith’s signature slim silhouettes had a Mod-ish feel with double-breasted suit jackets paired with ankle-length pants in mismatches shades of dusky peach, mustard and teal. A more laid-back, rocker vibe came in cotton or leather biker and blouson jackets.

Jean Paul Gaultier Resort
2013
A Jean Paul Gaultier pre-collection is typically based on the
house’s iconic classic styles, so for resort, a nautical and le smoking theme
ran throughout. What was new, however, was the fluidity of the looks- even
shown on the more tailored pieces, such as a tuxedo jacket with an asymmetric
collar and lapels that draped like a scarf, and jersey pants that flowed like
an Indian sarong. Fittingly, an India feel was also evident, demonstrated with
red or striped silk jumpsuits, cut so wide they looked like caftan dresses, not
to mention the turbans that topped every look.
